KEY CLUB: Ed Michaud reported that the Key Club will be having their first meeting on September 8th at 2:00 pm. This is scheduled to be a recruitment pizza party for potential members. Kiwanian’s are welcome and encouraged to attend!
BUILDERS CLUB: Buddy reported that they have a new advisor, Susan Bradbury and their first meeting is scheduled for September 14th at 2:00 pm. Kiwanian’s are welcome and encouraged to attend!
HAPPY/SAD $$: Maryann, Happy $ for West Paris Grandstand fund that has raised $4,488 and they are half way done building! Don Happy $$ for Cub Scouts with son, currently selling popcorn if anyone interested see him. Kathy, Happy $ for granddaughter Kasey who made the varsity soccer team as a freshman at Lake Region HS; Sarah, Happy $3 for daughter who had a first job interview, had a 2nd interview and made the final screening and #1 on the Company’s list to pursue. Buddy, Happy $ for being so grateful he is walking around, it has been a very long four months. He thanked all those who called, sent cards and well wished during his recovery. Bill H., Happy $ for good weather which is great for haying. Bob, Happy $ for last evening with Doug and Juanita at the Sea Dogs and meal at Margarita’s. Very happy with “friendly” waitress. Stuart C., Sad $ for our meal system….he refused dessert and it went to Bill H. Had he known he wouldn’t have declined dessert. Helga, Happy $ for Buddy being present and Penalty $’s for pictures in the paper. Juanita, Sad $ …while they had a great time last evening with Bob, they got home before they realized Doug left his jacket at the ball park.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parking at the Oxford Fair – We will be parking cars on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Fair. We have two slots left open - anyone interested please see Tina C. or Helga.
Interclubs – Sign up sheets will be available next week. We are planning to start the interclubs with Sanford on the Sept. 30.
Annual Banquet – The Annual Banquet will be held Sept. 24 at Four Season’s Function Center. Social Hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner (Italian Theme) and Inductions at 6 p.m. The price is $20 per person. Please sign up soon.
Logo Wear – Becky has worked with Perfect Stitch to provide us with the opportunity to get shirts, jackets, hats, etc. with the Kiwanis logo on it. We need to have our order in by September 30th!
Beth’s House – Joe updated the group on the continued efforts to raise money for Beth’s House. They have already raised $5,400. There will be a huge yard sale this weekend to benefit Beth’s House Project. Donations are being received at the Lake Store. They are also selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a Trip to Mexico – See Joe for purchase.
Charlie Goodspeed Award – Nominations are being accepted for the Charlie Goodspeed Award until Sept. 11. Please take the time to nominate a club member who has “made a difference.”
Special Recognition
Bob “introduced” Gene Benner to the group giving a brief history of how he came to the Oxford Hills area and the contributions he has made along the way. Gene supports the community in many ways through his generosity and kindness. Gene has been a huge benefactor for Kiwanis by giving us a vehicle each year for our Auction. We thank you very much Gene. Helga presented him with a plaque commemorating his support.

Don inducted new member, Priscilla Burnette. Tina Rhuland was Priscilla’s sponsor. Priscilla has worked at the Progress Center for five year. Her and her husband used to own the Inn Town Motel in Norway. She is a mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Congratulations and welcome Priscilla.
Deb Anthony, Executive Director of the Progress Center gave a brief overview of what they do and the services they provide. They provide unique community outreach and volunteerism within the Oxford Hills area. They run a community kitchen serving free meals twice a month. They do light maintenance, lawn mowing, shoveling, etc. They believe in Helping Hands…Helping Community. They visit and call upon the elderly. They have also collaborated with local farmers and developed a Food Collaborative.
